Adessa Tawk

Adessa is a savvy professional with eighteen years of experience accelerating social impact, diversity and social change. I use my talents in communication, soft skills training and stakeholder engagement to drive impact in the Middle East region. As an educational consultant with strong expertise in human capacity development and results-based management, I work with NGO's, CBO's and governments to build capacity in gender equality and women's rights. I perform human resources analyses and gender audits, manage inclusive strategies, undertake gender-sensitive evaluations and coach managers through gender-sensitive project management. Countries of experience: Australia, Lebanon, Syria, Serbia, Yemen, Jordan, Kuwait and United Arab Emirates. I am now focused on the next step that would allow me to build on prior eighteen years of experience and fuse my two passions: empowerment of women, girls and youth educational development to foster real positive change through the promotion of gender equality. I consulted on the capacity building elements, identifying needs and providing changes to the ways targeted financial loans are secured, through technical assistance, mentoring, cross-partner learning and capacity development initiatives. My biggest motivation was when capacity building within various NGO’S and civil society organisations such as NDI (National Democratic Institute), OXFAM, ESFD (Economic and Social Fund for Development, ELCIM (European Lebanese Center for Industrial Modernisation), DRC (Danish Refugee Council) and IRC (International Rescue Committee) in Serbia.

My specific skills include:

  • Developed, maintained and delivered robust management information on training, development and inclusive targeted recruitment.
  • Liasing with civil society to incorporate training on gender, human rights and domestic violence
  • Solid progressive experience in gender/social inclusion related roles (combination of programme development, advisory, project management, training/capacity building roles)
  • Working knowledge of the institutional arrangements, key stakeholders and existing policy in the area of gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment in the MENA region
  • Have an experience of organizing/leading discussions, facilitating a variety of events, workshops, working with government, local authorities, community groups as well as providing analysis and reporting
  • Provided specialist training on strategic planning, communications, funding proposals, female leadership, for change, train the trainer, optimising social media
